Are You Not Entertained?
Wild Weekend of College Football Brings Excitement.

Welcome to Week 5 and welcome back to the Campus Talks newsletter
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?! We entered the weekend wondering what could come of it. We had some pretty good looking games on the schedule, but it didn't look like a loaded schedule. However, this weekend delivered all that and more, so strap in and let's recap.
But first, the highlight of this week is what's going on at Kansas. Yes we've heard the jokes about the basketball schools this year (let's not forget Kansas won the basketball championship earlier this year for the 21-22 season), but what kind of football program have the Kansas Jayhawks been? Historically pretty mediocre, but they did finish the 2007 season at 12-1 and were ranked as high as 2 at one point in the AP poll. Thinking about that now is pretty crazy, right? It's been a sharp decline since that pinnacle.
I think it's safe to say that since 2010, Kansas has been the saddest program in the Power 5 and it's not even really a debate, it's facts. Between the 2010 and 2021 seasons they've had a dismal 23-118 record (that's a .163 win percentage...) They had two seasons in that span in which they won 0 games, 0!!! It's had to fathom and realize just how bad that actually is. And for a school that doesn't lack resources.
They tried finally putting those resources to work by making a splash and hiring former National Champion coach Les Miles. Unfortunately for Kansas, Miles was on the tail end of his career, lacked the juice that made him a national champion, and didn't bring the fire they hoped. While Miles was at Kansas it was revealed he behaved terribly at his old job (LSU where he won that national title) and was promptly fired. In fact, everyone was fired. The school saw it as an opportunity to clean house. That timing worked out perfect and they have a new Athletic Director and head coach since the 2021 season.
Now they're 4-0. Crazy to look at this timeline and think that this is a 4-0 team now. A strong 4-0 at that. Somehow they're still not ranked in the top 25, but that probably goes back to their history. They haven't won 4 games in a season in 13 years, so it's hard to believe a program that has had this much disarray the past 10+ seasons is 4-0 and for real, so the voters are slow to give them their praise.
But head coach Lance Leipold continues to transform this team week by week. They have one of the most electric QBs in the country in Jalon Daniels. And the people of Lawrence, Kansas are buzzing like they do when it's March and their basketball team is dancing in March Madness for another championship. Don't sleep on this team. They're as fun and real as any other solid power 5 team, and I think it's safe to say they're just getting started.
Ain't No Seats.

Now, let's recap last week and look ahead to this weekend. (Link to web version, can play videos directly in tweets there)
Week 4 Recaps
DOUBLE OT THRILLER: Clemson and Wake Forest started off our Saturday morning with a shootout. Both QBs balled out with Clemson's DJ Uiagalelei throwing for 375 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Sam Hartman threw for 337 yards and 6 touchdowns, setting a Wake Forest record for most TD passes in a single game. In the end, Wake Forest couldn't keep up with the mighty Clemson, failing to match Clemson's touchdown in Double OT. Clemson wins their 14th straight game in the series. Clemson 51 - Wake Forest 45 (2OT) (Wake Forest +7.5 covers)

WILDCATS RUN WILD: Oklahoma suffered a shocking defeat after Kansas State went in to Norman and ran all over them. Kansas QB Adrian Martinez ran for 148 yards and 4 TDs. He added 234 passing yards and 1 TD to dominant in what he called his best collegiate performance. Kansas State 41 - Oklahoma 34 (Kansas State -13.5 covers)
TEXAS TECH RUNS TEXAS FOOTBALL: This one was wild. Texas Tech took a late lead with a field goal, but left too much time on the clock as Texas was able to tie it in the final minute by driving the field and hitting a 48 yard field goal, sending the game in overtime. In OT, Texas fumbled the ball back and Tech kicked another field goal to win it. Texas Tech football coach had a postgame speech that will make anyone run through a wall. Texas Tech 37 - Texas 34 (Texas Tech +7.5 covers)
"I told you they were gonna break.
The country's gonna find out. EVERYTHING RUNS THROUGH LUBBOCK."

GIG 'EM: After suffering a major blow and losing to Appalachian State in week 2, Texas A&M has bounced back nicely with back to back top 25 wins. Arkansas had high hopes climbing up to the 10th ranking, but will have to make some magic happen the rest of the way in SEC. The play of the game here was when Arkansas fumbled the ball on the 1, A&M's Tyreek Chappell picked it up, and near the 20 as he was getting tackled he lateraled it back to Demani Richardson to take it another 82 yards for the score. Texas A&M 23 - Arkansas 21 (Texas A&M -2 pushes)
ABSOLUTE CHAOS!!!! KJ Jefferson fumbles, Tyreek Chappell recovers for A&M then pitches it back to Richardson and he returns it for the 82 yard TD!!! ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ http

JMU ANNOUNCES THEY'VE JOINED THE FUN BELT: We gave a lot of love to the Fun Belt last week and it did not disappoint this week. App State had the dreaded 28-3 lead and gave up 22 points to JMU in the second half without scoring. That pesky 28-3 lead, never fails. James Madison has yet to lose as an FBS team (they just moved to FBS this year.) James Madison 32 - Appalachian State 28 (James Madison +6.5 covers)
JMU just completed a 28-3 comeback.
Theyโve never lost as a FBS team.

YARDS AND POINTS FOR EVERYONE BABY: This game had to be highlighted because Fordham is an FCS school and was supposed to lose to Ohio by a lot. But instead all these two teams did was score, score, score. Ohio QB Kurtis Rourke set a single game school record with 537 passing yards. Ohio finished with 692 total yards and Fordham with 640 total yards, for those good at math, that brings us to 1,332 YARDS OF OFFENSE IN THIS GAME. Unreal. Makes me think I could've run in there to throw a few TDs as well. (Fordham had yards added back in due to stat correction post game, hence the discrepancy between the tweet and my recap) Ohio 59 - Fordham 52 (Fordham +16.5 covers)
Ohio had 692 total yards. Fordham had 598 total yards. Also both teams had over 110 yards in penalties each. INSANE.
